Aim Checklists

AIM Checklists

The AIM Checklists can be purchased as part of a 5-year unlimited access licence, see section below for more details. There are also options for buying 10, 30 or 50 individual uses of the AIM Checklists, see individual uses section below for more details.

About the AIM Checklists

The AIM Checklists provide a framework to inform and support professional decision making, as not all behaviours which have a sexual component will need a referral to another agency or an AIM3 or AIM Under 12s assessment. There are four AIM Checklists to reflect different levels of development due to age or ability.

With kind permission from the author, The AIM Checklists incorporate Simon Hackett’s Sexual Behaviour Continuum (2010), with columns headed Normal, Inappropriate, Problematic and Abusive/Violent. All four AIM Checklists are based on research and practice with 8 key questions providing a contextual overview of the sexual behaviour to give a balanced perspective. They can be used in two ways:

  • Initial decision making

They can support professionals with limited experience in working with problematic or harmful sexual behaviours, to increase their confidence that they are gathering the right information on which to make a decision about whether they need to make a referral to another agency, or if they can manage it in their own setting

  • Resource Allocation

They can support experienced managers and practitioners in statutory services or specialist HSB services, making decisions about allocation of resources for undertaking AIM3 or AIM Under 12s Assessments.

AIM Checklists Packages – individual uses

There are three AIM Checklists packages, with varying numbers of sessions which provide access to the AIM Checklists. Each package includes:

  • Guidance on how to use the AIM Checklists through an online video and a written version of the AIM Checklists guide which can be downloaded or printed.
  • Access online to all four of the AIM Checklists within each session. These cannot be downloaded.
  • Copy of the AIM Checklist outcome forms for all four AIM Checklists which can be downloaded or printed for use in practice.

10 x Accesses– This package would be ideal for those who are wanting to sample the AIM Checklists or feel that their team or agency may only need a limited number.

30 x Accesses– This package would work for those who may have a larger team or are likely to be using the AIM Checklists more frequently.

50 x Accesses– This package would suit those with large teams or agencies or who will be using the AIM Checklists frequently.

For teams or agencies who feel that they would use the AIM Checklists even more frequently than this, then please contact us to discuss your requirements or to consider the 5-Year unlimited access Licence.

The Five-Year Licence

To support Local Authorities developing their strategic HSB plans and enabling the use of the AIM Checklists across the agencies, AIM are offering a 5 Year Licence, which is a one-off payment entitling the agencies within that Local Authority to unlimited access to the AIM Checklists with free updates if any changes are made within that time period.

The AIM Checklists can support professionals with:

  • Initial decision making

They can support professionals with limited experience in working with problematic or harmful sexual behaviours, to increase their confidence that they are gathering the right information on which to make a decision about whether they need to make a referral to another agency, or if they can manage it in their own setting

  • Resource Allocation

They can support experienced managers and practitioners in statutory services or specialist HSB services, making decisions about allocation of resources for undertaking AIM3 or AIM Under 12s Assessments.

Strategic Benefits

  • Because the AIM Checklists are quick and simple to use, they can support practitioners in a range of agencies, with a range of experience and knowledge in the field of HSB.
  • When used strategically across a local authority, they can bring consistency to understanding, language and how behaviours are evaluated and communicated between agencies.
  • This consistency in practice can facilitate a shared consensus on the appropriate levels of concern and on proportionate outcomes and interventions, reducing potential differences of opinion which may have previously complicated or undermined assessments, safety planning and effective intervention plans.

The AIM Checklists come with a How to Use them guide in written and video format. This guidance also gives direction on appropriate levels of action relating to the outcomes.
