FAQs

HOW TO MAKE A BOOKING / COURSE TIMINGS / NUMBER OF PLACES ON COURSE / FACE TO FACE TRAINING

HOW DO I MAKE A BOOKING?

On our website click on the Services link and then select AIM Organised Courses to see all our available courses. Once you have found the course you are looking for you can select the available date(s) in the drop-down menu. If the dates are greyed out it means that they are sold out. In that event, please email admin@aimproject.org.uk and ask to be added to the mailing list for that course so you will receive notification of new dates being added.

Once you have selected the date you will be prompted to complete the online application form. This will then take you to the payment page to complete the booking. You will receive a booking confirmation by email. If a book is integral to the course, we will dispatch the book two weeks before the start date. The trainer will email you approximately two weeks prior to the start date with further details, pre-course admin and handouts, the Zoom link will be sent close to the training date (so you don’t have to search your email history to find it).

HOW MANY PLACES CAN I BOOK?

You can book up to five places on the same course. We hold this limit in order to balance the course dynamics.

HOW DO I BOOK TRAINING FOR MORE THAN FIVE PERSONS?

If you are looking to book a course for a minimum of eight and a maximum of 16 or 20 people (most courses have a maximum of 20 but some have a maximum of 16) please visit Services/Online Training Courses or Services/Face to Face Training where you can find out more about the courses you can commission for your organisation. From there you can complete an enquiry form for the course(s) that interest you. Or you can simply email admin@aimproject.org.uk to ask us about the course(s) that interest you.

WHAT ARE THE COURSE TIMINGS?

Courses start at 9.30 am but the online meeting room will be open from 9.15 am and we recommend you sign in early to ensure successful connection and complete registration. Courses end no later than 4.30 pm. There will be regular breaks, the trainer will give you the break times.

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ON A COURSE?

Most of our courses have a maximum of 20 people, apart from our AIM3 Assessment of Adolescents and HSB course and our AIM Assessment of Children Under 12 and HSB course which have a maximum of 16 people.

WHEN DOES FACE TO FACE TRAINING RETURN?

Given the current circumstances we are only providing training online but we will review this towards the end of 2021. If this changes we will put up a notice on the Home page of our website, so please check that regularly for details.

CANCELLATIONS / MAKING CHANGES TO YOUR BOOKING / PAYMENTS / REFUNDS

I CAN’T PAY BY PAYPAL OR CARD

If you are unable to pay via Paypal or Debit or Credit card on the website please email us on admin@aimproject.org.uk and do not proceed with booking via the website. We can send you an invoice instead which would be payable by bank transfer.

I WISH TO CANCEL MY BOOKING

It is possible to cancel your booking, but dependent on when you do it, cancellation fees may apply. Therefore, as a first option, and if the timeframe allows, you might want to consider the possibility of sending a replacement colleague to the training. If you wish to make such a replacement you must contact us by email on admin@aimproject.org.uk and notify us of the details of the person who is replacing you.

If a book is an integral part of the course and it has not yet been sent to you (we can tell you this when you first contact us about the change) then we will need the change of name, new email address and changed postal address of the person to whom we will now need to send the book.

If you have already received the book or it is in transit to you, then you would need to ensure that the book is passed to your colleague before the course date. If your replacement does not have the book when the course starts then they will not be able to take part and unfortunately, we would not be able to refund you any costs.

If it is not possible for your colleague to receive the book from you in time for the course then a replacement for you on the course would not be possible and the following sliding cancellation scale would apply:
– Cancellation 4 weeks or longer before start date based on our ability to reallocate the place: Full refund
– Cancellation between 4 weeks and 15 days before start date: Credit note of fifty percent of the training costs (excluding cost of the book if already sent to you)
– Cancellation of 14 days or less before start date: No refund

I WISH TO SWAP MY PLACE WITH A COLLEAGUE

If you wish to swap your place with a colleague you must contact us by email on admin@aimproject.org.uk and notify us of the planned change and to give us the name of your replacement, their email address and their agency address.

If a book is an integral part of the course and it has not yet been sent to you (we can tell you this when you first contact us about the change) then please email admin@aimproject.org.uk as soon as possible to notify us of to whom we now need to send the book. We will need the new name, email address and changed postal address.

– Cancellation 4 weeks or longer before start date based on ability to fill place: Full refund
– Cancellation between 4 weeks and 15 days before start date: Credit note of 50% of the training costs (excluding cost of the book if already sent to you)
– Cancellation of 14 days or less before start date: No refund

I WISH TO SWAP TO A DIFFERENT DATE OR COURSE

If you wish to swap to a different course or date you must contact us by email on admin@aimproject.org.uk as soon as possible and at least four weeks or more before the course date.

We will be happy to move your booking subject to availability. If there is price difference and you need to pay more you will need to pay the difference before the course date or if the alternate course costs less, we will arrange for a refund or credit note of the price difference.

If you tell us within four weeks or less of the course date, we would not normally be able to accommodate your request.

MY EMAIL ADDRESS HAS CHANGED SINCE I MADE THE BOOKING

Please contact us at admin@aimproject.org.uk as soon as possible so we can notify the trainer to ensure you receive all the handouts and the training link.

I CAN’T ATTEND DUE TO ILLNESS / COURT APPEARANCE / OTHER UNFORESEEN REASONS

Please contact us immediately if you cannot attend due to unforeseen circumstances. We will deal with each case individually and let you know what your options are.

COURSE BOOKS

For our Advanced courses, our books containing the relevant Model or Practice Guidance are required for the training and provide a useful resource to support the implementation of the training into practice following the course, therefore they are included in the price.

If you order three to five places for your staff you have the option to order a mixture of two full books and 1- 3 workbooks (workbooks are the practical part of the model while the full book also contains the research and theoretical underpinning) This allows your staff to have access to the full book information but reduces the costs overall. Please use the drop down menu when you book the places.

If you already have the full book within your service and you can have it available for use in the training, then you do not need to order a book. Please pick the appropriate option in the drop down menu when you book your place. However, please be aware that if any participant attends the training without a book, then they will not be able to continue with the course and no refunds can be given so please check carefully before selecting this option.

MY BOOK HAS NOT ARRIVED

We dispatch the books or workbooks two weeks prior to the start date of the training, to the address you have given us via Royal Mail Signed For 2nd class delivery (applicable to UK deliveries only). If you have not received the book within five days of the start date, please contact admin@aimproject.org.uk so we have enough time to sort this out for you.

If you are located outside of the UK, we will send the book earlier than two weeks before the training to ensure that it reaches you on time. If you have not received the book within one week of the start date, please contact admin@aimproject.org.uk so we have enough time to sort this out for you.

MY ADDRESS FOR SENDING THE BOOK TO HAS CHANGED

We dispatch the book two weeks prior to the start date of the training to the address you have given us by Royal Mail Signed For 2nd class delivery (applicable to UK deliveries only). If you are located outside of the UK, we will send the book earlier than two weeks before the training to ensure that it reaches you on time.

Therefore, if your address has changed you must contact us as soon as possible and before we send the book. If the book is already on the way we will not be able to recall it and you will need to collect it from the old address.

Where that is not possible you would either need to order a new book in time for the training or cancel the training and we would unfortunately not be able to refund you the cost of the original book or for the training costs (please see CANCELLATIONS / MAKING CHANGES TO YOUR BOOKING / PAYMENTS / REFUNDS section in FAQs)

ADDITIONAL NEEDS / PERSONAL IMPACT / WORKING FROM HOME / PROBLEMS DURING THE COURSE

I HAVE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT NEEDS

We aim to accommodate participants with additional support needs (for example, Dyslexia) and it greatly assists us if you can let us know well in advance of the course, at the point of booking, so we have time to make appropriate arrangements.

I FIND THE SUBJECT MATTER DIFFICULT

The nature of our subject matter means that we cover some complex and difficult information and case examples during our training. During the Covid situation particularly with online training, you need to be mindful of accessing these courses in your own home and that this may have a personal impact on you or on family members also within the household, particularly children. We recommend you seek support from your manager where possible.

I WORK FROM HOME – CAN I STILL ATTEND AN ONLINE COURSE?

This will be an initial decision for your manager to make. If they agree, then we ask that participants try to ensure they are in a quiet space away from household members, especially children, during the training. (see also I FIND THE SUBJECT MATTER DIFFICULT in FAQs)

WHAT IF MY INTERNET CONNECTION OR COMPUTER DOES NOT WORK ON THE DAY OF TRAINING / DIFFICULTIES ACCESSING THE TRAINING LINK

A reliable internet connection is required for online training. If your connection does not work on the day of training, we are unfortunately not able to refund you the training costs.

Reducing technical difficulties on the day
All participants will be sent pre-course material where appropriate and an email link for joining the course. We recommend participants test that they can access the platform in advance of the training, rather than on the morning of the training, so you can discuss this with us in advance and to reduce any delays for everyone at the start of the training.

CAN I USE MY MOBILE OR TABLET FOR ATTENDING AN ONLINE COURSE?

Our experience is that workers attempting to access the training through mobile phones or I Pads are not able to access the full functionality of the platforms and this will impact on their ability to engage in the training and may be disruptive to the training. Therefore, we recommend that all participants join the training using a laptop.

AIM3 OR AIM UNDER 12 COMPETENCY REQUIREMENT – WHAT IS IT AND WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO NOT PASS?

We have introduced a competency requirement, using a case study, for the AIM3 and AIM Under 12s assessment courses, as part of our quality assurance policy, to increase the quality of AIM assessments undertaken and improve the impact on outcomes for children and young people, by checking if the participants have understood and can demonstrate competence in applying the relevant model (AIM3 or AIM Under 12s).

If the participants pass the case study, they will be approved by The AIM Project to use the relevant model and will receive an Approval Certificate which is valid for 3 years. Only those who have been approved can use the model. Post course, quality assurance about how the AIM3 or AIM Under 12s models are used in practice should be provided through the practitioner’s line management.

After 3 years, the approval will need to be renewed to keep practice up to date with current research and thinking re HSB. This will be done through The AIM Project contacting the original course Commissioners to offer a refresher course. If any individual approaching their 3 year limit, is concerned that they have not been offered a refresher course, they can contact The AIM Project directly by emailing admin@aimproject.org.uk
If you do not pass the trainer will discuss with you the areas where you failed. You will not be authorised to use the AIM3 or the AIM Under 12 model so we would recommend retaking the course at a later stage.

Unfortunately, we would not be able to discount the next course. That is why it is important that you check the attendance criteria of the course before applying.

I FOUND THE TRAINING COURSE TOO DEMANDING/TOO DIFFICULT

We have organised our training into Foundation and Advanced level courses, with clear criteria for who should attend, to support you in purchasing the appropriate level of AIM training for yourself or your staff, to gain the maximum impact on your practice. We also sell our books with our training so that all participants have the resources to put their learning into practice when they return to work.

If you choose the right level course according to your practice experience then you should not find the course too demanding or difficult. If you choose a course that is too advanced for you then we would unfortunately not be able to refund you the costs incurred.

CAN I LEAVE THE TRAINING FOR CHILD CARE OR OTHER REASONS?

Our training courses are delivered as live online courses. There will be breaks throughout the day but we do ask that you show commitment to the training, as if it were delivered face to face and to organise yourself so that your training day is free of disruptions. Please arrange for an out of office message on your email and phone so that you are not disrupted by work emails or phone calls.

Certificates will only be issued if the course is completed in full.
If it is unavoidable that you need to leave the training, please let the trainer know before leaving. Unfortunately, we are not able to refund the training cost and in the case of AIM3 and AIM Under 12s you would not be authorised to use the relevant Model if you have not completed the course in full.
