For Residential and Foster Carer Training, please contact us directly

Quality Assurance

We have organised our training into Foundation and Advanced level courses, with clear criteria for who should attend, to support commissioners in purchasing the appropriate level of AIM training for their workers, to gain the maximum impact on their practice. We also sell our books with our training so that the participants have the resources to put their learning into practice when they return to work.

Competency Requirement for AIM3 and AIM Under 12

We have introduced a competency requirement for the AIM3 and AIM Under 12s assessment courses, as part of our quality assurance policy, to increase the quality of AIM assessments undertaken and improve the impact on outcomes for children and young people, by checking if the participants have understood and can demonstrate competence in applying the relevant model (AIM3 or AIM Under 12s), using a case study.

If the participants pass the case study, they will be approved by The AIM Project to use the relevant model and will receive an Approval Certificate which is valid for 3 years. Only those who have been approved can use the model.  Post course, quality assurance about how the AIM3 or AIM Under 12s models are used in practice should be provided through the practitioner’s line management.

After 3 years, the approval will need to be renewed to keep practice up to date with current research and thinking re HSB. This will be done through The AIM Project contacting the original course Commissioners to offer a Reapproval course. If any individual approaching their 3 year limit, is concerned that they have not been offered a Reapproval course, they can contact The AIM Project directly

Foundation Awareness Courses:  Attendance Criteria –  All our foundation awareness courses are ONE DAY and are open to practitioners from all agencies. They have been created to develop a professional understanding of children and young people who display HSB. This will benefit those who need to understand these behaviours but who may not be involved in assessments or direct work, as well those practitioners who wish to go on to take our advanced courses.

Advanced Courses

All our advanced courses are designed to build on previous knowledge of HSB, either through attendance on our foundation courses, or through relevant practice experience, therefore they are pitched at a more advanced level of practice knowledge and understanding. The courses cover the AIM models for assessment and intervention for children and adolescents and, also specialist topics such as Technology-Assisted HSB and Restorative Practice and HSB. It also includes a Supervisor’s Course and a course for Senior education staff with a safeguarding responsibility.

Resources

For most of our Advanced courses, books and workbooks on the Model or Practice Guidance are required for the training and provide a useful resource to support the implementation of the training into practice following the course.

A book is the full book for the course, which has all the relevant information which underpins the Model or Practice Guidance, including up to date research and theoretical underpinnings.

A workbook is the practical part of the full book

For our AIM 3 and AIM Under 12’s, each participant will require access to either a full book or a work book, so for each course we require that commissioners purchase two full books so that all the practitioners have access to this research and theoretical underpinnings when writing their reports and the remainder can be purchased as workbooks

For our AIM Intervention and AIM Restorative Practice Training there are no workbooks and course commissioners need to purchase a minimum quantity of 5 books per course.

For our Education Training, each school would need to order at least one copy of our AIM Education Guidance.

Your requirements will be discussed with you when booking a course

** Please note that both these courses have a competency requirement, see Introduction and course profiles for more details
